Traditional Fry Bread

Traditional Fry Bread
3 c- flour
about 1/2 tbsp baking powder
about 1 - 1 1/2 tsp salt
about 1/8 -1/4c - veg oil (Lard is what’s recommended but I have to think about my arteries!)
And 1 - 1 1/2 c. hot water.

Add about 1/2 c oil into a pan.

Turn burner to about medium hot heat. Get pan heating while you combine ingredients. Mix it all up in a bowl till a nice round ball is formed. Knead for a couple of minutes then separate into smaller balls. Usually yields about 8-10 pieces.

Roll out onto flat surface. With rolling pin, roll till dough resembles a flat pancake. Carefully place into hot frying pan. Fry on one side for a couple of minutes then repeat on other side.

Possibilities are endless! You can put butter and cinnamon and sugar, or powdered sugar. Or if you prefer you can use them as taco shells. They’re really good with salsa! Or just eat them plain!

However they are not very healthy!

This came from one of my walking partners. She learned from her mom who just grabbed handfuls or pinches of ingredients - never really measuring.
